Ooh I love that Virgin Black album. I'm surprised you didn't already have it! It's probably their most underrated IMO. There are some really excellent songs on it.

Shame shame! Someone was recently looking for it on another forum and couldn't find it anywhere. They ended up contacting the band on facebook and was able to get a CD. You might want to prioritize that soon because I don't know how much longer it'll be available! It's very good.

What do you think of that FLA?  I never got into 'em but enjoy their Christmas track.  Maybe one of these days I'll pick up their stuff... especially now that they're active again.  I'm also curious about the lyrics.  Have you had a chance to read them yet?

Yeah, I already listened to Nailed several times today. I've heard it before, just never owned a physical copy.

As for Frost Like Ashes, the new music is great. I listened to it for the first time on the way home from work. It's dark, punishing black metal and I feel the guitar is even better than on Tophet. The lyrics match with the music. It was difficult to read them, which is one gripe I have. They are small print and the font is not easy to decipher in the booklet. The content of the lyrics is all about the grim force of Nature and the struggles of a wandering, lost pilgrim. My interpretation is that it is a metaphor that follows the journey of a lost soul to redemption. He faces obstacles in the form of cold, fog, oceans, mountains, etc. At one point Nature is even personified as a force that seems to be attacking the wayfarer. The final song of the EP offers hope as the person finds love and acceptance. There's no explicit reference to God or Jesus, but the final stanza makes it very clear:

You found me
My dead heart
But you did not leave me
You've risen
With me like
A dizzying wave
You changed me
What I was
You revived my dark heart
This is a new world
This is a new heart
A new reality
The reality is You

I think that people who are not Christians would be able to listen to this album and maybe find some hope amidst darkness and suffering. It's not cheesy at all and fits well in the black metal subgenre. But it's definitely not a praise or worship album or anything like that. I hope that helps with your decision. I think that they're an awesome band and deserve the support!

Nice! Yes I think Dark Ages is even better than the debut as well. Did you know the female vocalist is Robert's wife? She also did the artwork for the album (and the debut).

I saw on a social media post that she did the artwork (which I like, as I ordered a shirt), but didn't realize that she is his wife. That's pretty cool.
