Re: Latest Christian Metal Purchases
How are you liking that Snakes Of Byzantium album? That one really exceeded my already-quite-high expectations. I assume you're already a fan of Kohllapse?

I really like Snakes of Byzantium's new album. It's something fresh with lots of different genre influences. I'm actually at a loss how to label it. Maybe progressive death metal? But that doesn't seem quite right, as there are melodic and gothic influences, and even a little Middle Eastern flair in the guitar melodies.
I remember checking out Kohllapse years ago, but I wasn't impressed. Then again, my tastes have changed since then, so maybe I should give it another shot. Where should I start?

Nice! I have it tagged in my library as "gothic metal" which I think is probably the closest... though as you said, there are a lot of different styles in there so it doesn't quite do the album justice.
I really dig Kohllapse and definitely recommend giving 'em another shot. I'd probably start with their second album Distant Mind Alternative. Both albums got remastered and re-released not too long ago and are pretty easy to find now. (I have the original versions but my understanding is the remastered ones are a decent improvement on the sound.)
This is the first re-release of DMA from years ago which I don't believe was remastered.

Re: Latest Christian Metal Purchases
Okay, I'll take a listen at some point this weekend.
Regarding Snakes of Byzantium, I am kind of leaning toward progressive metal overall, although there are clearly gothic roots, so that makes sense as well.
Today as I am listening to it, there are some points that remind me of Believer's Transhuman album. So maybe progressive thrash metal with gothic influences would be a definitive label (at least in my mind). Most people would probably just say progressive metal. Enough rambling...

I listened to both Kohllapse albums. I enjoyed it overall, although the production quality could've been better (and I was listening to the remastered versions on Spotify, so the originals must've been pretty rough). I also found the vocals inconsistent. My favorite song was "Insight," which reminded me of Paradise Lost. I will have to pick up the albums on CD eventually.

Ha, fair enough! The Metal Archives has them listed as progressive metal and they're sticklers about genre, so that may be the trve genre! It's more gothic than thrash to my ears, but I do pick up some thrash in there as well.

Right on. I think the re-releases are pretty easy to come by and not too expensive, so you should be able to pick 'em up for good prices.
A Finnish friend is collecting a bunch of Finnish Christian music for me to send all together so I can save on shipping. I just ordered Bleakwail - Acedia, but it's going first to my friend who will ship it along with the rest later, so it'll be a while yet before I get to enjoy it. He's also gonna get me HB's four (Finnish) albums, Asianajaja's album, and hopefully the three VIP albums I'm missing, along with some Mustarastas (folk) and others.

Taking the Head of Goliath - Futility of the Flesh
When the Trumpet Blows - Mind and Soul
Morphia - Frozen Dust
Renascent - Demons' Quest
Renascent - Through Darkness
Dehumanize - Superbia Falsum Deum Creat
Glae - Human Condition
I've been meaning to pick up those Renascent albums for years now. Back in the day they were either too hard to find or too expensive.

Nice! Both of those Renascent releases are very good. Frozen Dust is is a personal favorite of mine; great album! Do you have their other releases? All are good though that one's definitely my favorite of theirs.

Right on. Their debut Unfulfilled Dreams is quite good too; I definitely recommend snagging it up if you see it! Also, their live CD/DVD is great as well. I don't usually go for live albums but I was surprised at just how much I enjoy it.
