Love Insomnium! Still haven't gotten their latest though. Used to listen to Opeth back in the day, not much anymore.

Yeah, a lot of people stopped listening after Opeth switched styles. I still enjoy them as a rock band, it just depends on my mood.
I haven't had a chance to listen to the new Insomnium album yet, but I'm sure it will be great.

The first metal show I ever went to was a big outdoors event with a ton of bands, including Opeth who were one of the highlights. Seeing them windmill in unison was impressive enough, and hearing Mikael switch between his growls and cleans was amazing. The whole band played really tight and sounded great.

Yeah it was a lot of fun! There were a ton of bands there including Gwar, Strapping Young Lad, Norma Jean (who we ran into at In N Out after the show haha), and others. Lamb Of God headlined but we left midway through because none of us cared for them.
Back on topic, I recently got Alcest's new album. It's not my favorite of theirs, but it's quite good nonetheless and will definitely need more listens for me to really formulate my opinions. It'll be a grower I suspect. It's most comparable to their previous album Kodama though feels a bit more mature and with more emotion IMO.

Re: All "Other" Music Purchases
My in-laws sent me:
Stress - Kisértet kastély
Stress - A tűz még ég
Leander Kills - Élet A Halál Előtt (signed)
Azlan - First Roar
The Azlan CD is a bit of a mystery. I think the distro from where they got the Stress CDs included it for free as a bonus. It's a Hungarian band also, though they sing in English and it seems like may at least be somehow connected to the Christian scene, though their lyrics don't give any indication one way or the other. They play progressive rock/metal maybe comparable to Shadow Gallery though a bit more rock-oriented than metal. It's good stuff.

Re: All "Other" Music Purchases
Yes, I know I should have had physical copies of these before now...there's just too much music and too little time. Not to mention it costs money!
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (Reissue)
Iron Maiden - Killers (Reissue)
Death - Scream Bloody Gore (Reissue)
Death - Spiritual Healing (Reissue)
Death - Human (Reissue)
That completes my Death collection, so that's nice at least!

These came in this week. I'm not completely sold on the new Gojira. I think I liked Magma better.

Re: All "Other" Music Purchases
I just ordered directly from the band the entire catalog of full-length albums from Motorband. They're a Czech heavy metal band with members who've also played in Kreyson and Signum Regis, to name a couple. They've been around for a long time and are quite good! As far as I know, they're not a Christian band by any means but the lyrics appear to be pretty benign and even some hint towards Christianity.

It didn't matter where you posted it, it still got my like! There are several secular bands that I need to preorder soon. Maiden, Carcass, Devin Townsend, and Rivers of Nihil all come to mind. I'm sure I'm missing somebody, too. This has been a wild year for music and I'm loving it. Choosing End of the Year albums is going to be tough.
