Herfstdood (post black metal)
Herfstdood's debut EP Lijdensweg was released over the weekend and it's really quite good! This one surprised me a bit by how much I'm enjoying it. Definitely check it out!

Herfstdood (formerly known as Your Spirit Calms My Soul) was founded by A. (Wapenveld, Jordskaelv, et al.) in 2021.
"Lijdensweg" was originally recorded in 2021 as a much more (atmospheric) black metal sounding album. A. wasn't happy with how the record turned out. He decided to fully re-record the album with a soundwise speaking much more shoegaze approach in mind in comparison to those earlier tracks. "Lijdensweg" was recorded in November and December 2023.

Does the split album with Hikikomori not count as a debut? Or do you mean chronologically?
Anyway, I like the split so I'll have to check it out.

Eh I usually don't count demos or splits in this sort of context, though this release is more of an EP in terms of length anyways so I dunno haha!

It doesn't matter either way! I'll check out the EP at some point this weekend.

I keep forgetting to post. Love the album! It's great for listening to on the drive to work in the morning.

Nice! A guy on the CMR posted this regarding the lyrics:
https://thecmr.forumotion.com/t14593-herfstdood-post-black-metal#275648
Andreas wrote:'Eindigheid' (meaning finitude) explicitly mentions "may the Heavenly Father ease the pain, may He carry the grief and in drink-drenched(?? raises questions) black days be merciful towards the ill-fated".
The final songs ends with "when death calls, it is only another era than (or contrary to) suffering and perishing".

Sounds a bit nihilistic, but is still calling on God for deliverance. I don't know German (duh) so I can't comment on the translation of the lyrics and whether they are accurate.

Bleak and yet hopeful: sounds pretty fitting for Christian black metal to me!
(The lyrics are actually in Dutch but that's the native language to one of the guys on CMR. His English is probably better than mine haha so I trust his translating work. )
