The Umbrella Academy
So with the recent price increase, I have canceled my Netflix subscription. I don't care for much of their original content anyway (except for Stranger Things of course).
However, I have recently started watching The Umbrella Academy. It's based on a comic series by Gerard Way (front man for the now split-up My Chemical Romance). My expectations were very low since, 1. I don't usually care for Netflix original content, and 2. it's based on a comic by a guy from a rock/emo band that I never really cared for (except a brief period that I listened to The Black Parade album because it had a very classic rock feel).
I must say, I am pleasantly surprised with the show. I don't know if it's a testament to the quality of the original content, or if it is solely driven by the passion of the production staff and the excellent casting, but I am four episodes in and I am very intrigued. I won't necessarily say it's "AWESOME!!1!1!1" or anything like that, but in a time when I've had a lot of trouble finding a new show to watch, it's definitely scratching my itch. Very original and pop-culturally artistic.
I recommend checking it out. I'm trying to finish watching it (season 1: 10 x 1-hour-long episodes) before my Netflix subscription expires (as I have already canceled it).

This looks interesting. My wife and I are going to give this a shot, eventually...we just finished Kingdom and still have quite a bit of Stargate to get through.

What'd you think (beside the awesome hats, of course)?

The ending was a bit of a fizzle, but I quite liked it overall (and the ending being what it was isn't necessarily a bad thing; I'm still undecided). The court intrigue part of it was very interesting, I thought, and the characters and acting were all good. I'm looking forward to a second season.

^Cool, that's about my feelings toward the show too. The season ended on cliffhanger with basically NOTHING resolved. That's fine to end an episode that way... but to end the season like that? Meh. Still, I look forward to season 2. Any idea when it's set to be released?
